Competition Rules:
1 Entrants must be 18 years old or over and reside, or work, or attend an institution (education/voluntary/social club, etc.), within a 10 miles radius of Market Square, Burton upon Trent.
2 Only short stories written in English to a maximum length of 1500 words will be accepted. There is no minimum word count. Poetry in any form is not acceptable.
3 The theme is ‘Brewed in Burton’ – but don’t take that literally. Stories should be inspired by something that relates to the town of Burton Upon Trent. All styles (including experimental) and genre-based fiction (mystery, crime, fantasy, science fiction, historical) are welcome.
4 Entries to be submitted only by post. Please send TWO copies, printed on standard-size paper and double-spaced, 12 pt standard font, pages numbered. A separate cover sheet ONLY should bear the entrant’s name, address, telephone and email address (if available) and PLEASE state entrant’s connection to Burton upon Trent. Email and hand-written entries will not be accepted. Entries will not be returned (please don’t send your only copies).

6 Only one story per entrant please. Only the first opened submission of a multiple submission by one entrant will be accepted. The submission must be entrant’s own original work and must be previously unpublished (work that has appeared online, in print or has been broadcast is not eligible).
7 As a condition of submitting, the author agrees that Burton Monday Writers and Burton Civic Society has permission to publish prize winning entries online at www.burtonmondaywriters.co.uk and www.burtoncivicsociety.org for one year after the results are announced. Copyright remains with the author.
8 Entries will be judged anonymously and all decisions are final. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the results by the judge, organisers or sponsors.
9 The results will be announced at an Awards Ceremony held in September 2012 at Burton upon Trent, where the prizes will be presented.
